We need help with the shop! We're looking for dedicated people or groups of people to come together to make the shop much better than it already is - at the same time keeping costs low!
Volunteers interested in this can help out on an adhoc basis or a more regular basis depending on the position.

Position 1: Inventory management
Position 2: Marketing and Publicity
Position 3: Fair Assistants
Position 4: Photographers
Position 5: Copywriters
Position 6: Sales and Consignment
Position 7: Online Riverkids shop management

A few of the positions can be taken up by international volunteers as well. Details of the positions are as below.

Position 1: Inventory Management
We would like someone with experience in this to either take over inventory management from Riverkids Singapore staff, or educate us on the best practices for inventory management. Right now, inventory is all in an Excel sheet and after a few weeks of fairs and shop orders, the spreadsheet becomes redundant. And we end up having to re-count the items in storage. You'll aid the volunteer in charge of managing the shop (Position 7) in making sure the stock figures are correct. Volunteer is preferably someone staying in Singapore. Inventory management advisors however can be international volunteers as well. Inventory should include measurement of shop items as well - especially for the online shop.

Position 2: Marketing and Publicity
You will be in charge of marketing the shop - making sure to keep costs LOW. We can probably have Regional Marketing and Publicity Volunteers for various regions depending out what you are from. So each volunteer then just focuses on publicising the shop to the regional audience. The job will require liasing with the Online Shop Manager (Position 7) to come up with specific promotions for target audiences.
International volunteers are very welcomed.

Position 3: Fair Assistants [ad-hoc]
Some of you have been helping out with this and we are eternally thankful. Position requires volunteers to man booths during fairs and ensure the fair items are in good condition throughout the fair. They will also be involved in raising awareness of the shop and Riverkids' cause through some of Riverkids' microbusiness products. Volunteer position is only available in Singapore.

Position 4: Photographer [ad-hoc]
In charge of taking photos of shop items. Needs basic photography skills - point and shoot. Will need some photoshop skills as well - cropping, colour adjustments, contrast, adjusting image size. To liaise with copywriter - send pictures to copywriter/ upload pictures to a picture sharing site for copywriters to view.

Position 5: Copywriters [ad-hoc]

To write ad-copies of products. Requires good English writing skills and will liase with Inventory Management (Position 1) Volunteer to obtain measurements of items to complete the ad-ccopies. Suitable for both international and Singapore volunteers.

Position 6: Sales and Consignment
To help place Riverkids shop items in other places for consignment, etc. To find other ways of selling the items other than relying on the online shop and fairs. Look for markets where there is a demand for Riverkids shop items. This also links to Riverkids Foundations Microfinancing Programme - finding shops that celebrate Fair Trade to carry products made by families involved in our Microfinancing programme, or to identify markets which the Microfinanacing Programme can get Microfinancing Participants involved in to create a more sustainable way of living. International volunteers welcomed.

Position 7: Online Riverkids Shop Management
To oversee all other volunteer positions, update the shop, add items to the shop, follow up with customers (Customer Service). And manage Shopper mailing list for shop updates. International Volunteers welcomed. Will work very closely with Riverkids staff.

Those interested, just drop a reply below or email dale@riverkidsproject.org and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

This will really really help us with time management as well since managing the shop effectively is more or less a full time job and takes staff away from doing research and overseeing the Cambodia office.
Most of the positions have flexi-timing - we'll just give you a deadline for you to work towards. Very much free and easy.

Fulfilment of shop orders will be done by Riverkids Singapore staff due to logistics issues - the items are in the Hooper office anyway.

Thank you all so much. If you all know anyone who may be interested but is not in groupswim or even has no idea what Riverkids is about, do send it to them too!

Hi Shielam!

So sorry for the late reply! We would love help with photography! I've just sorted the shop items that need to be photographed and we've got about 4 boxes full. :P

You can drop me and email at angeline@riverkidsproject.org and let me know when you'll be able to help out.

Angeline
